Muir Woods National Monument

Known for its towering old-growth redwood trees, Muir Woods National Monument offers a variety of family friendly activities, including: hiking, educational programs, guided tours and a plethora of plants and wildlife that are sure to satisfy every nature lover.

  • Hiking - Within Muir Woods, you can find 6 miles of hiking trails, ranging from shorter ½ hour trails to longer trails that will take you through the woods and over to Mount Tamalpais. On each trail, you will be treated to spectacular views of old-growth redwoods.

  • For Kids - Muir Woods offers a variety of programs and activities for children of all ages. One of our favorites is the Junior Ranger Program. This program allows kids to learn about our national parks and wildlife, as well as teaches them about ways that they can protect our national parks so that future generations will be able to experience them.

  • Guided Tours - Park rangers and volunteers offer guided tours regularly. These tours are a great way to learn more about the park and the wildlife who live there. Visit the event calendar for details on upcoming tours. In addition, you can purchase a self-guided tour for just $1 at the Visitor Center.
