2018 Kitchen Design Trends

For many people, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where you prepare meals, eat, gather and share (food, conversation and memories) with your loved ones.

Not only is it the heart of the home, but it’s also become a wonderful room in which to express your design style. I’ve been reading some online design articles this week & talking with our developer clients and our buyers, and wanted to share with you some of the top kitchen design trends we are already seeing for 2018.

  1. Functionality- Not only are individuals designing their kitchens to look fabulous, but they are also choosing gorgeous and multi-functional cabinets counter tops, and other finishes (ex: floating shelves & butcher block countertops that function as a giant cutting board).
  2. Color- White remains the #1 color for kitchens, but grey is catching up quickly. If you opt for grey cabinets, consider pairing them with white or black countertops to give your space an understated elegance: Marble, quartz and soap stone are among some of our favorites. Pops of color on the island or gorgeous Spanish tile on the island (and/or back splash) are something we are seeing a lot lately, too.
  3. Sink- More and more homeowners are opting to add a little fun to their kitchens by choosing colorful sinks that complement the overall theme of the space. (ex: bright blues and greens). Also, the bigger the better when it comes to sinks!! Farmhouse sinks for a more traditional look; or industrial stainless steel sinks for a more modern look.
  4. Automation- Technology doesn’t have to be reserved for the living room and bedrooms. Add a bit of automation to your kitchen by installing motion-sensor lights (in your pantry!) and touchless kitchen sink faucets, which are so practical, especially when cooking or baking!

This is just a snippet of where kitchen design is heading in 2018. If you’d like to learn more about how to up your design game, check out HGTV and Better Homes and Gardens for some great ideas.
